Explanatory Note

This Bill allows the Council of the Halifax Regional Municipality to grant a property tax reduction if a building on the property has been destroyed or partially destroyed notwithstanding the rule in the Charter providing that the Municipality may not grant a tax concession or other form of direct financial assistance to a business or industry.

An Act to Amend Chapter 39
of the Acts of 2008,
the Halifax Regional Municipality Charter,
Respecting Property Tax Reductions

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Subsection 87(1) of Chapter 39 of the Acts of 2008, the Halifax Regional Municipality Charter, is amended by striking out "The" in the first line and substituting "Notwithstanding subsection 71(2), the".
