Explanatory Note
This Bill amends the Municipal Government Act and the Halifax Regional Municipality Charter to require the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing to respond to requests for legislative changes within six months.
An Act to Amend Chapter 18
of the Acts of 1998,
the Municipal Government Act,
and Chapter 39 of the Acts of 2008,
the Halifax Regional Municipality Charter,
Respecting Legislative Requests
1 Chapter 18 of the Acts of 1998, the Municipal Government Act, is amended by adding immediately after Section 519 the following Section:
- 519A When the Minister receives a request from a municipality or the Union
of Nova Scotia Municipalities for an amendment to this Act or the regulations, the Minister shall respond to that
request within six months of receipt.
2 Chapter 39 of the Acts of 2008, the Halifax Regional Municipality Charter, is amended by adding immediately Section 382 the following Sections:
- 382A When the Minister receives a request from the Municipality for an amendment to this Act or the regulations, the Minister shall respond to that request within six months of receipt.
382B The Minister shall create a process to consider, on a timely basis, all requests from the Municipality made before the coming into force of this Section for amendments to this Act or the regulations.
