An Act to Reduce the Qualifying Threshold
for the Canada-Nova Scotia Targeted Housing
Benefit Rent Supplement Program

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as the Rent Supplement Threshold Reduction Act.

2 Subject to Section 4, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing shall reduce the threshold for the Canada-Nova Scotia Targeted Housing Benefit Rent Supplement Program from paying more than 50% of a renter's pre-tax household income on rent to paying more than 30% of a renter's pre-tax household income on rent.

3 The Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing may not increase the threshold for the Canada-Nova Scotia Targeted Housing Benefit Rent Supplement Program without the House of Assembly first passing a resolution approving the increase.

4 The money required for the purpose of this Act must be paid out of money appropriated for that purpose by the Legislature.
