An Act to Establish
a Diabetes Framework for Nova Scotia
Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:
1 This Act may be cited as the Diabetes Framework Act.
(a) "Diabetes Framework" means the framework established under Section 3;
(b) "Pharmacare" means coverage of the cost of prescribed medications.
3 (1) The Minister of Health and Wellness shall establish a Diabetes Framework aimed at preventing and managing diabetes.
(2) Subject to Section 4, the Diabetes Framework must include
(a) coverage for all diabetes medications under Pharmacare;
(b) the provision of a continuous glucose monitoring system at no cost to the patient if a primary care provider orders it; and
(c) diabetic foot care at no cost to a diabetic.
4 The money required for the purpose of this Act must be paid out of money appropriated for that purpose by the Legislature.
