An Act to Provide Immediate Relief
to Seniors and Nova Scotians
Living on Low Incomes

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as the Relief for Seniors and Nova Scotians Living on Low Incomes Act, 2022.

2 In this Act, "eligible person" means a person who

(a) is eligible for assistance under the Employment Support and Income Assistance Act; or

(b) qualifies under the Heating Assistance Rebate Program.

3 (1) The Minister of Finance and Treasury Board, in collaboration with the Minister of Community Services and the Minister of Seniors and Long-Term Care, shall develop a program to offer immediate financial support to eligible persons.

(2) Subject to Section 4, the program under subsection (1) must make funds available to eligible persons no later than September 1, 2022.

4 (1) The money required for the purpose of this Act must be paid out of money appropriated for that purpose by the Legislature.

(2) The amount of money appropriated under subsection (1) may not exceed the amount of unspent money appropriated for the Seniors Care Grant.
