An Act to Ensure Compassion
for Companion Animals

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as the Companion Animal Compassion Act.

2 In this Act,

(a) "companion animal" has the same meaning as in the Animal Protection Act;

(b) "motor vehicle" has the same meaning as in the Motor Vehicle Act;

(c) "peace officer" has the same meaning as in the Animal Protection Act;

(d) "Society" has the same meaning as in the Animal Protection Act.

3 (1) Any person who strikes a companion animal with a motor vehicle shall immediately report the incident to the nearest Society branch, a peace officer or the owner of the companion animal.

(2) Any person who contravenes subsection (1) is guilty of an offence and liable on summary conviction to a fine of $200.
