Explanatory Note

This Bill

(a) adds membership in an elected government body as a prohibited area of discrimination under the Human Rights Act; and

(b) adds elected office and candidacy for elected office as prohibited grounds of discrimination.

An Act to Amend Chapter 214
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the Human Rights Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Subsection 5(1) of Chapter 214 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Human Rights Act, as enacted by Chapter 12 of the Acts of 1991 and amended by Chapter 51 of the Acts of 2012, is further amended by

(a) adding "or elected government body" immediately after "organization" in the last line of clause (g); and

(b) adding immediately after clause (u) the following clause:

    (ua) elected office or candidacy for elected office;
