An Act to Support the Creative Economy
AND WHEREAS the richness of those talents has developed a tradition of high excellence in a diversity of creative activities;
AND WHEREAS in the evolution of the overall economy, creative activities are expected to take a significant role;
AND WHEREAS significant Governmental investment in the creative economy is warranted and has proven to be cost-effective;
THEREFORE be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:
1 This Act may be cited as the Support for the Creative Economy Act.
2 In this Act, "arts and culture sector" includes(a) writing and the publishing of written material;
(e) music performance and publishing;
(u) infrastructure in relation to anything referred to in clauses (a) to (t); and
(v) expenses of Government departments or agencies in relation to anything referred to in clauses (a) to (t),
but does not include direct grants to post-secondary educational institutions.
3 (1) Notwithstanding the Finance Act but subject to subsection (2), at least one per cent of the total expenditures from the General Revenue Fund in any fiscal year of the Province must be made in respect of the arts and culture sector.
(2) The money required for the purpose of subsection (1) must be paid out of money appropriated for that purpose by the Legislature.
