Explanatory Note
This Bill requires the Minister of Health and Wellness to establish a program, under which every resident of Nova Scotia under the age of 25 who has a health card will receive designated prescription drug coverage at no cost.
An Act to Amend Chapter 7
of the Acts of 2011,
the Fair Drug Pricing Act
1 Section 3 of Chapter 7 of the Acts of 2011, the Fair Drug Pricing Act, is amended by adding immediately after subsection (2) the following subsections:
- (3) The Minister shall establish a program under the Plan entitled the Child and Youth Pharmacare Plan.
(4) Subject to subsection (5), the Child and Youth Pharmacare Plan must
(a) include as a beneficiary every resident of the Province under the age of 25 who is insured under Section 3 of the Health Services and Insurance Act;
(b) provided full coverage of the cost of any drug designated as a benefit under Section 10; and
(c) require no enrolment fees, co-pay or deductibles.
(5) The money required for the purpose of subsection (4) must be paid out of money appropriated for that purpose by the Legislature.
(2) Section 2 comes into force on the later of
(a) the day that Chapter 44 of the Acts of 2012, the Insured Health Services Act, comes into force; or
