Explanatory Notes
(a) repeal the definition of "Department" as it will no longer be used in the Act;
(b) replace a definition of the Deputy Minister of Community Services with a definition of the Chief Executive Officer of Housing Nova Scotia;
(c) update the Minister's title in the definition of "Minister";
(d) replace references to the Deputy Minister with references to the Chief Executive Officer; and
(e) replace a reference to the Department with a reference to Housing Nova Scotia.
Clauses 3 to 6 amend the Housing Nova Scotia Act to
(a) repeal the definition of "Department" as it is not used in the Act;
(b) require the appointment of a Chief Executive Officer of Housing Nova Scotia who will take over the role of the Deputy Minister of Community Services in the Act;
(c) replace a provision that uses gender specific language; and
(d) clarify that an appointment provision in the Act applies only to employees other than the Chief Executive Officer, as the Chief Executive Officer will be appointed under the new Section 2A.
Clause 7 provides that this Act comes into force on proclamation.An Act to Amend Chapter 211

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:
1 Section 2 of Chapter 211 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Housing Act, is amended by(a) striking out clauses (b) and (c) and substituting the following clause:
(b) striking out "Housing" in clause (f) and substituting "Community Services".
2 Subsection 4(2) of Chapter 211 is amended by
(a) striking out "Deputy Minister" in the second line and substituting "Chief Executive Officer";
(b) striking out "the Department" in the second line of clause (a) and substituting "Housing Nova Scotia"; and
(c) striking out "Deputy Minister" in the second and third lines of clause (b) and substituting "Chief Executive Officer".
3 Clause 2(b) of Chapter 213 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Housing Nova Scotia Act, is repealed.
4 Chapter 213 is further amended by adding immediately after Section 2 the following Section:(2) The Chief Executive Officer has the status of a deputy head under the Civil Service Act and shall be paid such remuneration as the Governor in Council determines.
(a) striking out "Deputy Minister" in the second line and substituting "Chief Executive Officer"; and
(b) striking out clause (b) and substituting the following clause:
6 Subsection 4(1) of Chapter 213 is amended by adding "other than the Chief Executive Officer" immediately after "persons" in the first line.
7 This Act comes into force on such day as the Governor in Council orders and declares by proclamation.
