Explanatory Note
This Bill provides for the taxation of the Halifax International Airport Authority by Halifax Regional Municipality in accordance with a taxation agreement, including authority for a taxation agreement between the Airport Authority and the Municipality.
An Act to Amend Chapter 39
of the Acts of 2008,
the Halifax Regional Municipality Charter
Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:
1 Chapter 39 of the Acts of 2008, the Halifax Regional Municipality Charter, is amended by adding immediately after Section 92 the following Section:(2) Notwithstanding any enactment, where the Council considers it necessary or advisable, the Municipality may enter into a taxation agreement with the Authority respecting the taxes payable to the Municipality by the Authority.
(3) A taxation agreement entered into pursuant to this Section does not apply with respect to property leased or occupied by a tenant of the Authority.
2 This Act has effect on and after April 1, 2014.
