Explanatory Note

This Bill repeals subsection 19(2) of the Solemnization of Marriage Act which imposes a five-day waiting period from the date the required affidavit is filed to the date of issuance of the marriage licence and which also contains a redundant requirement contained in subsection (1).

An Act to Amend Chapter 436
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the Solemnization of Marriage Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Subsection 19(2) of Chapter 436 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Solemnization of Marriage Act, is repealed.

2 This Act comes into force on such day as the Governor in Council orders and declares by proclamation.
