An Act to Authorize the Municipality
of the District of East Hants to Aid
in the Funding of a Curling Arena

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as the East Hants Curling Arena Act.

2 In this Act,

(a) "Association" means the East Hants Curling Association, a society incorporated pursuant to the Societies Act;

(b) "Council" means the Council of the Municipality;

(c) "Municipality" means the Municipality of the District of East Hants.

3 The Municipality may borrow up to $600,000 to assist financially the Association in the construction of a curling arena situate in the Municipality for the purpose of encouraging and promoting recreational activity for the community at large.

4 (1) The Municipality may

(a) levy a charge, rate or tax for the purpose of retiring all or part of the debt incurred by the Municipality pursuant to this Act;

(b) enter into an agreement with the Association for the lending to the Association and repayment by the Association of all or part of the monies borrowed by the Municipality pursuant to this Act on such terms as the Council determines to be in the best interest of the Municipality;

(c) retire all or part of the debt incurred by the Municipality pursuant to this Act by such other method as the Council determines to be in the best interest of the Municipality.

(2) A charge, rate or tax levied pursuant to this Act may be levied and collected in the same manner and in all respects as other municipal charges, rates and taxes required for the ordinary lawful purposes of the Municipality are levied and collected.

5 The Association shall use all monies paid to it pursuant to this Act to defray the cost of constructing the curling arena referred to in this Act and for no other purpose.
