Explanatory Notes

Clause 1 limits class sizes in grades primary to three to no more than 25 students unless otherwise requested by a school advisory council and approved by the Minister.

Clause 2 provides that moneys needed to implement Clause 1 be paid from moneys appropriated for that purpose by the Legislature.

An Act to Amend Chapter 1
of the Acts of 1995-96,
the Education Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Subject to Section 2, Chapter 1 of the Acts of 1995-96, the Education Act, is amended by adding immediately after Section 5 the following Section:

6 Unless otherwise requested by the school advisory council for a public school and approved by the Minister, the public school may not have more than twenty-five students in a class for grades primary, one, two or three or any grade combination thereof.

2 The money required for the purpose of this Act must be paid out of money appropriated for that purpose by the Legislature.
