Explanatory Note

This Bill prohibits the holding of a plebiscite on Provincial matters in conjunction with a municipal election.

An Act to Amend Chapter 300
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the Municipal Elections Act,
to Prohibit Provincial Plebiscites
in Conjunction with Municipal Elections

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Chapter 300 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Municipal Elections Act, is amended by adding immediately after Section 2 the following Section:

2A Notwithstanding any other Act, no plebiscite relating solely to Provincial matters may be held pursuant to this Act in conjunction with an election.
