Explanatory Note
This Bill gives the Registrar of Motor Vehicles the power to dispose of vehicles that have been impounded and expands the impounding of vehicles to include drivers who have been convicted of driving while uninsured or driving without proper registration.
An Act to Amend Chapter 293
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the Motor Vehicle Act
1 Chapter 293 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Motor Vehicle Act, is amended by adding immediately after Section 291A the following Sections:
(2) Where the one-year period referred to in subsection (1) expires, the Registrar shall dispose of the motor vehicle in the time and in the manner prescribed.
291AB (1) Where a person is convicted of an offence under Section 37, 64 or 230, the person's motor vehicle shall be impounded and Section 291A applies mutatis mutandis.
(2) A person convicted of an offence referred to in subsection (1) shall, in addition to having the person's motor vehicle impounded pursuant to sub-section (1), have the person's driver's license or privilege of obtaining a license suspended for
