Explanatory Note
This Bill creates a Department of Rural Economic Development.
An Act to Amend Chapter 155
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the Executive Council Act, and
Chapter 376 of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the Public Service Act
1 Section 3 of Chapter 155 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Executive Council Act, as amended by Chapter 14 of the Acts of 1992, Chapter 21 of the Acts of 1993, Chapter 19 of the Acts of 1994, Chapter 1 of the Acts of 1995-96, Chapter 8 of the Acts of 1996, Chapter 25 of the Acts of 1996 and Chapter 4 of the Acts of 2001, is further amended by adding immediately after clause (n) the following clause:
2 Section 2 of Chapter 376 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Public Service Act, as amended by Chapter 14 of the Acts of 1992, Chapter 38 of the Acts of 1993, Chapter 31 of the Acts of 1994, Chapter 1 of the Acts of 1995-96, Chapter 8 of the Acts of 1996, Chapter 25 of the Acts of 1996 and Chapter 4 of the Acts of 2001, is further amended by adding immediately after clause (j) the following clause:
3 Chapter 376 is further amended by adding immediately after Section 66 the following heading and Sections:
66B The Minister of Rural Economic Development shall
(a) assist businesses in rural Nova Scotia;
(b) attract investment and opportunities for new businesses to locate in rural communities;
(c) work with local community and economic development groups, rural municipalities and other stakeholders;
(d) provide core funding for regional development associations;
(e) work as an advocate at the intergovernmental and international stage and be responsible for administering programs focused on development and policies for rural communities in the Province.
