Explanatory Note

This Bill amends the Civil Service Collective Bargaining Act to provide that persons who are employed for two months or longer on a casual, temporary or seasonal employment basis are employees for the purpose of the Act, while maintaining an exclusion for persons who are appointed on a student summer employment basis.

An Act to Amend Chapter 71
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the Civil Service Collective Bargaining Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Subsection 11(1) of Chapter 71 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Civil Service Collective Bargaining Act, is amended by

(a) striking out "twelve" in the second line of clause (c) and substituting "two";

(b) adding immediately after clause (c) the following clause:

(ca) appointed on a student summer employment basis;

(c) striking out "summer" in the first line of clause (d) and substituting "seasonal";

(d) striking out "six" in the third line of clause (d) and substituting "two".
