An Act Respecting the Establishment
of a Process to Implement
Senior Home Medication Reviews
Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:
1 This Act may be cited as the Senior Home Medication Review Act.
(a) "Committee means the Committee established by this Act;
(b) "Minister" means the Minister of Health;
(c) "objectives" means the objectives aimed at creating a process to implement senior home medication reviews.
(a) a representative of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia;
(b) a representative of Doctors Nova Scotia;
(c) a representative of the College of Pharmacy;
(d) a representative of the Pharmacy Association of Nova Scotia;
(e) a representative of the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia;
(f) a representative of the Group of IX;
(g) a senior chosen from the public at large who is not a member or former member of any of the above-named organizations;
(h) a staff person from the Department of Health; and
(i) a staff person from the Nova Scotia Seniors' Secretariat.
4 The Minister shall appoint a member of the Committee to be the Chair of the Committee.
(a) study the Home Medication Review program offered to seniors in Australia for the purpose of developing a program for the Province; and
(b) implement a program for the Province to perform an annual review of seniors prescribed medications in the Province.
6 The Committee shall report to the Minister with recommendations, including an implementation timetable, for annual medication reviews no later than March 31, 2007.
7 The moneys required for the purpose of this Act shall be paid out of moneys appropriated for that purpose by the Legislature.
