Explanatory Note

This Bill permits the Government Caucus to select a member of the Caucus, other than the Chair of the Caucus, as its representative on the Legislature Internal Economy Board and permits each caucus to select a member of its caucus as a substitute member of the Board.

An Act to Amend Chapter 376
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the Public Service Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows: 1 (1) Subsection 77(1) of Chapter 376 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Public Service Act, as amended by Chapter 8 of the Acts of 1996 and Chapter 4 of the Acts of 2001, is further amended by striking out "the Chairman of" in the fourth line and substituting "one member from". (2) Section 77 of Chapter 376, as amended by Chapter 8 of the Acts of 1996 and Chapter 4 of the Acts of 2001, is further amended by adding immediately after subsection (2) the following subsection:
(3) Each caucus referred to in subsection (1) may choose a member of that caucus to be a substitute member of the Board and, in the absence of the member of the Board chosen by that caucus pursuant to subsection (1), the substitute member may attend and participate in meetings of the Board in place of the absent member.
2 This Act comes into force on such day as the Governor in Council orders and declares by proclamation.
