Explanatory Note

This Bill amends the Health Services and Insurance Act to continue and expand the Nova Scotia Insulin Pump Program.

An Act to Amend Chapter 197
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the Health Services and Insurance Act,
Respecting Glucose Monitors

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Chapter 197 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Health Services and Insurance Act, is amended by adding immediately after Section 3 the following Section:

    4 (1) In this Section, "Program" means the Nova Scotia Insulin Pump Program operated by the Department.

    (2) The Program is continued.

    (3) Subject to subsection (4) and the regulations, the Program must provide coverage of the costs of continuous glucose monitoring for residents who

    (a) have type 1 or type 2 diabetes; and

    (b) are eligible for coverage under the M.S.I. Plan.

    (4) The money required for the purpose of this Section must be paid out of money appropriated for that purpose by the Legislature.
