Explanatory Note

This Bill provides that the provision and administration of the Shingrix vaccine for shingles is an insured professional service under the MSI Program for residents age 50 or over.

An Act to Amend Chapter 197
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the Health Services and Insurance Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Chapter 197 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Health Services and Insurance Act, is amended by adding immediately after Section 3 the following Section:

    4 (1) Notwithstanding the tariffs or the regulations but subject to subsection (3), the provision and administering of the Recombinant Zoster Vaccine (Shingrix) for the prevention of the herpes zoster virus is deemed to be an insured professional service when it is provided and administered to a resident who is fifty years of age or older.

    (2) The money required for the purpose of this Section must be paid out of money appropriated for that purpose by the Legislature.
