An Act to Ensure the Safety and
Readiness of New Schools

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as the New School Readiness Act.

2 In this Act,

(a) "new school" means any building not previously used as a public school before the coming into force of this Act;

(b) "public school" has the same meaning as in the Education Act.

3 (1) No new school or addition to an existing public school may be opened to students or staff of the school or to the public until the security cameras and fire alarms are installed and in good working order.

(2) For greater certainty, good working order means the security cameras and fire alarms have been inspected and approved by a municipal building inspector.
