Explanatory Note

This Bill amends the House of Assembly Act

(a) to authorize the establishment of a policy for the prevention of and resolution of harassment complaints in the workplace; and

(b) to authorize investigators retained under a policy to carry out investigative requirements as set out in the policies.

An Act to Amend Chapter 1
(1992 Supplement)
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the House of Assembly Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Chapter 1 (1992 Supplement) of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the House of Assembly Act, is amended by adding immediately after Section 32 the following Section:

32A (1) The House may establish a policy for the prevention of harassment in the workplace of its members, officers and staff and the resolution of complaints regarding harassment in that workplace.

(2) A person or office retained as an investigator under a policy established pursuant to subsection (1) may in the manner prescribed in the policy, carry out all inquiries necessary to meet the investigative requirements set out in the policy.
