Explanatory Note

This Bill allows charges to be imposed by by-law in relation to the costs for new or expanded recreational facilities, fire facilities and library facilities and the costs for studies and engineering, surveying and legal costs related to any of the items for which charges may be imposed under the Section.

An Act to Amend Chapter 39
of the Acts of 2008,
the Halifax Regional Municipality Charter

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Subsection 104(1) of Chapter 39 of the Acts of 2008, the Halifax Regional Municipality Charter, is amended by

(a) striking out the period at the end of clause (j) and substituting a semicolon; and

(b) adding immediately after clause (j) the following:

(k) new or expanded parks, playgrounds, trails, bicycle paths, swimming pools, ice arenas, recreation centres and other recreational facilities;

(l) new or expanded fire departments and other fire facilities;

(m) new or expanded public libraries and other library facilities,

and costs for studies and engineering, surveying and legal costs incurred with respect to any of them.
