Explanatory Note

This Bill overrides the ninety-day waiting period for MSI benefits provided for in the MSI regulations for spouses and dependents of Canadian Forces members who move to Nova Scotia.

An Act to Amend Chapter 197
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the Health Services and Insurance Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Chapter 197 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Health Services and Insurance Act is amended by adding immediately after Section 4 the following Section:

4A (1) Notwithstanding clause 2(1)(a) of the M.S.I. Regulations made under this Act but subject to subsection (2), a spouse or dependent of a member of the Canadian Forces moving to the Province is insured for the payment of the cost of insured services under those regulations commencing on the day the spouse or dependent takes up residence in the Province.

(2) The moneys required for the purpose of subsection (1) shall be paid out of moneys appropriated for that purpose by the Legislature.
