Explanatory Note

This Bill adds to the power of the council of the Halifax Regional Municipality to reduce taxes payable on residential properties in the 2005-06 fiscal year that they may do so in any fiscal year set out in a policy.

An Act to Amend Chapter 18
of the Acts of 1998,
the Municipal Government Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows: 1 (1) Subsection 536B(1) of Chapter 18, the Municipal Government Act, as enacted by Chapter 22 of the Acts of 2005, is amended by (a) adding "or other fiscal year set out in the policy, including being retroactive to the beginning of the fiscal year" immediately after "year" in the third line; and

(b) adding "or other fiscal year" immediately after "year" in the fifth and in the seventh lines.

(2) Subclause 536B(2)(a)(i) of Chapter 18, as enacted by Chapter 22 of the Acts of 2005, is amended by adding "or other fiscal year set out in the policy, including being retroactive to the beginning of the fiscal year" immediately after "year" in the third line.

2 This Act has effect on and after April 1, 2006, upon the Governor in Council so ordering and declaring by proclamation.
