Explanatory Notes

Clause 1 repeals a subsection in the Wilderness Areas Protection Act that permits the Minister of Environment and Labour to issue licences permitting use of a vehicle or bicycle on a trail or route within a wilderness area in certain circumstances.

Clause 2 restricts the Minister's power to issue to a holder of an interest in a campsite lease a licence to use a vehicle in a wilderness area so that a licence may only be issued for the purpose of removing campsite structures.

An Act to Amend Chapter 27
of the Acts of 1998,
the Wilderness Areas Protection Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Subsection 23(5) of Chapter 27 of the Acts of 1998, the Wilderness Areas Protection Act, is repealed.

2 Section 25 of Chapter 27 is amended by adding immediately after subsection (4) the following subsection:

(5) Notwithstanding subsection (4), the Minister may only issue a licence permitting use of a vehicle to the holder of an interest referred to in clause (1)(d) for the purpose of removing campsite structures.
