Explanatory Note

This Bill amends the Employment Support and Income Assistance Act to provide that applicants for assistance or recipients of assistance will not be disentitled to attend a post secondary education program unless they are taking longer than is reasonable to complete it.

An Act to Amend Chapter 27
of the Acts of 2000,
the Employment Support and Income Assistance Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Chapter 27 of the Acts of 2000, the Employment Support and Income Assistance Act, is amended by adding immediately after Section 7 the following Section:

7A Notwithstanding any enactment, an applicant for assistance or a recipient of assistance pursuant to Section 7 who attends a post-secondary education program is not disentitled to assistance on the basis of the length of the program unless that applicant or recipient is taking longer than is reasonable in the circumstances to complete the program in the normal course of study for that program.
