Explanatory Note

This Bill prohibits the disposal of waste electronic equipment in a landfill or incinerator and gives the Governor in Council the authority to make regulations respecting the proper methods of disposal and recycling of waste electronic equipment.

An Act to Amend Chapter 1
of the Acts of 1994-95,
the Environment Act,
Respecting Waste Electronic Equipment

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Chapter 1 of the Acts of 1994-95, the Environment Act, is amended by adding immediately after Section 100 the following Section:

100A (1) On and after the date set out in the regulations, no person shall dispose of waste electronic equipment in a landfill or incinerator.

(2) Waste electronic equipment shall be disposed of or recycled as set out in the regulations.

2 Subsection 102(1) of Chapter 1 is amended by adding immediately after clause (g) the following clauses:

(ga) respecting the disposal or recycling of waste electronic equipment;

(gb) determining the date for the purpose of Section 100A;
