Explanatory Note

This Bill requires the Government to establish a schedule for the implementation of the recommendations in the report of the Special Education Implementation Review Committee and, subject to the appropriation of any necessary funds, to implement the recommendations in accordance with the schedule.

An Act to Amend Chapter 1
of the Acts of 1995-96,
the Education Act,
to Implement the Recommendations of
the Special Education Implementation
Review Committee

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Chapter 1 of the Acts of 1995-96, the Education Act, is amended by adding immediately after Section 140 the following heading and Section:

140A (1) Within six months of the coming into force of this Section, the Government of the Province shall establish a schedule for the implementation of the recommendations contained in the June 2001 report of the Special Education Implementation Review Committee and shall, subject to the Legislature appropriating any necessary sums for that purpose, implement the recommendations in accordance with the schedule.

(2) The Minister shall table in the House of Assembly the schedule referred to in subsection (1).
