Elections Nova Scotia

In an election, many candidates run hoping to be elected. Most represent political parties and others run as independent candidates. In order for the voting process to be fair and impartial, the election must be managed and administered by an office that isn't associated with any candidate or political party.

The job of Elections Nova Scotia is to ensure that every election and by-election is held in a fair and impartial manner (according to the Elections Act and other relevant laws) and that all political parties and candidates act within the rules. It is independent of any political affiliation, including the government in power.

The Chief Electoral Officer is Ms. Dorothy Rice.
