In 1932, the County of Cape Breton was divided into five electoral districts: Cape Breton North, Cape Breton East, Cape Breton South, Cape Breton Centre, and Cape Breton West. (SNS 1932 c.19) Cape Breton West was created from polling districts Two, Three, Eighteen, and Twenty-one, formerly part of Cape Breton Centre; polling districts Eleven and Twelve, formerly part of Cape Breton East; and polling districts Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Thirteen, Fifteen, Sixteen, Seventeen, Twenty-Four, and the town of Louisburg, formerly part of Richmond-West Cape Breton. In 2003, Cape Breton West remained substantially the same, with minor adjustments to its boundaries with Cape Breton South, Cape Breton Centre, and Glace Bay. It gained the area on the north side of East Bay along highway 216 to include the Eskasoni Reserve (SNS 2002, c.34) Following the 2012 Electoral Boundary Commission Report, Cape Breton West was renamed Sydney River - Mira - Louisbourg.
