An Act to Reduce
the Regulatory Burden in Nova Scotia

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as the Red Tape Reduction Act.

2 In this Act, "Minister" means the member of the Executive Council assigned responsibility for this Act by the Governor in Council.

3 Within three months of this Act coming into force, the Governor in Council shall assign responsibility for this Act to a member of the Executive Council.

4 The Minister shall

(a) develop ways of changing the regulatory structure in the Province to reduce the regulatory burden;

(b) work with departments of the Government of the Province to reduce the regulatory burden in the Province; and

(c) request the departments to prepare any reports required by the Minister for the purpose of this Act.

5 Each department shall

(a) review the regulations for which it is responsible every five years;

(b) eliminate any redundant regulations; and

(c) report to the Minister, as requested by the Minister.

6 (1) Within one year of being assigned responsibility for this Act, and every year thereafter, the Minister shall prepare and submit to the House of Assembly a report respecting the progress being made to reduce the regulatory burden in the Province.

(2) The Minister shall table the report in the House of Assembly if the Assembly is then sitting or, where it is not then sitting, file the report with the Clerk of the Assembly.
