An Act to Require the Government of Nova Scotia
to Enter into Negotiations
with the Government of Canada
to Create a Federal Regulating Body
on Offshore Petroleum Safety Standards

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 This Act may be cited as the Offshore Safety Standards Act.

2 In this Act, "Minister" means the Minister of Energy.

3 The Minister shall enter into negotiations with the Government of Canada to create a National Offshore Petroleum Safety Board.

4 The National Offshore Petroleum Safety Board shall have control over and monitor the safety and environmental management of all offshore petroleum projects within the offshore area as defined in the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Resources Accord Implementation (Nova Scotia) Act.
