Explanatory Note

This Bill requires vehicles to yield to a transit bus re-entering traffic if the bus has signalled its intention to proceed.

An Act to Amend Chapter 293
of the Revised Statutes, 1989,
the Motor Vehicle Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Chapter 293 of the Revised Statutes, 1989, the Motor Vehicle Act, is amended by adding immediately after Section 124 the following Section:

124A Where a transit bus has stopped at a bus stop and is signalling its intent to re-enter the flow of traffic on a highway, the driver of every other vehicle shall yield the right of way to the bus unless the driver cannot yield to the bus in safety.

2 Section 293 of Chapter 293, as enacted by Chapter 10 of the Acts of 2002 and amended by Chapter 8 of the Acts of 2005 and Chapter 20 of the Acts of 2007, is further amended by adding ", 124A" immediately after "124" in the fourth line.
