Explanatory Note

This Bill amends the Education Act to provide that the Province will continue indefinitely to fund the tuition support program for students with special needs.

An Act to Amend Chapter 1
of the Acts of 1995-96,
the Education Act

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 Chapter 1 of the Acts of 1995-96, the Education Act, is amended by adding immediately after Section 144 the following Section:

144A (1) Notwithstanding any enactment, the Province shall continue indefinitely after the coming into force of this Section to fund the tuition support program that is in place at the time this Section comes into force for students with special needs who have individualized program plans, to allow those students to attend designated special education private schools.

(2) The moneys required for the purpose of subsection (1) shall be paid out of moneys appropriated for that purpose by the Legislature.
