An Act Respecting
the Representation of Students
in the Governance of Universities

Be it enacted by the Governor and Assembly as follows:

1 This Act may cited as the University Governance Act. 2 In this Act,(a) "board of governors" means the governing body of a university by whatever it is called;(b) "university" means a university listed in the Schedule to this Act. 3 (1) At least twenty-five per cent of the members of the board of governors of every university must be students of the university representing the student body of the university. (2) Where an enactment governing the membership of the board of governors of a university conflicts with subsection (1), then, notwithstanding that enactment, the membership of the board of governors is increased by adding students of the university to the board to the extent necessary to comply with that subsection. 4 (1) The Governor in Council may make regulations(a) adding institutions to or deleting institutions from the Schedule; (b) respecting any matter or thing the Governor in Council considers necessary or advisable to carry out effectively the intent and purpose of this Act. (2) The exercise by the Governor in Council of the authority contained in subsection (1) is regulations within the meaning of the Regulations Act.
