Explanatory Note

Clauses 1 and 2 amend the Housing Act to

(a) repeal the definition of “Department” as it will no longer be used in the Act;

(b) replace a definition of the Deputy Minister of Community Services with a definition of the Chief Executive Officer of Housing Nova Scotia;

(c) update the Minister’s title in the definition of “Minister”;

(d) replace references to the Deputy Minister with references to the Chief Executive Officer; and

(e) replace a reference to the Department with a reference to Housing Nova Scotia.

Clauses 3 to 6 amend the Housing Nova Scotia Act to

(a) repeal the definition of “Department” as it is not used in the Act;

(b) require the appointment of a Chief Executive Officer of Housing Nova Scotia who will take over the role of the Deputy Minister of Community Services in the Act;

(c) replace a provision that uses gender specific language; and

(d) clarify that an appointment provision in the Act applies only to employees other than the Chief Executive Officer, as the Chief Executive Officer will be appointed under the new Section 2A.

Clause 7 provides that this Act comes into force on proclamation.
