STANDING COMMITTEE ON HUMAN RESOURCES

10:00 A.M.

CHAIRMAN

Mr. Chuck Porter

MR. CHAIRMAN: Good morning, everyone. We’ll get started here. Maybe we’ll start with introductions of members.

            [The committee members introduced themselves.]

MR. CHAIRMAN: We’ll start off with the appointments to agencies, boards and commissions. The Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage, the Sherbrooke Restoration Commission. Ms. Treen.

MS. JOYCE TREEN: Mr. Chairman, I move that E. Neil Black and Max MacDonald be approved as members of the Sherbrooke Restoration Commission.

MR. CHAIRMAN: Would all those in favour of the motion please say Aye. Contrary minded, Nay.

            The motion is carried.

Next we have the Department of Health and Wellness, the Provincial Dental Board of Nova Scotia. Mr. Gordon Wilson.

MR. GORDON WILSON: Mr. Chairman, I move that Greg Fevens and David R. Melvin be approved as members of the Provincial Dental Board of Nova Scotia.

MR. CHAIRMAN: Would all those in favour of the motion please say Aye. Contrary minded, Nay.

            The motion is carried.

The Office of Service Nova Scotia, the Film Classification Board. Mr. Farrell.

MR. TERRY FARRELL: Mr. Chairman, I move that Sheila Clark, Ulysse J. Cottreau, Janis Holmes, Tamara Jennex, and Sheila McDougall be approved as members of the Film Classification Board.

MR. CHAIRMAN: Would all those in favour of the motion please say Aye. Contrary minded, Nay.

            The motion is carried.

That will do it for the ABCs.

A couple of things - Darlene has a copy of the Annual Report of the Standing Committee on Human Resources 2016, so please everybody sign that before you leave.

Also, we have November 29th - I’m not sure what the status of the House will be at that time. If we’re in session we’ll do as we normally do with agencies, boards and commissions; otherwise, there are witnesses currently booked. The Departments of Labour and Advanced Education, and Education and Early Childhood Development, regarding the report of the Transition Task Force, From School to Success: Clearing the Path - that is booked currently for our November 29th meeting.

Going into December we should talk about a meeting, unless you all want to be here on the 20-something late in the month of December, which we traditionally move back early. I think we looked at - Ed, you said that . . .

MR. EDDIE ORRELL: The Speaker’s Christmas party is December 7th, which is a Wednesday, which would put us, if we decided to go on that Tuesday or the following Tuesday, would be either the 6th or the 13th for the committee meeting.

MR. CHAIRMAN: So what’s your wish? Do you want to move a date, Ed?

MR. ORRELL: I’d be just as happy to do it on the 6th, while we’re here, we come up for the Speaker’s reception anyway. But to me it doesn’t make any difference, I can come up the next week for an hour.

MR. CHAIRMAN: Any further discussion on it? Ms. Mancini.

MS. MARIAN MANCINI: Who is the guest?

MR. CHAIRMAN: We don’t have one as yet, we will attempt to book one. We will do ABCs - the reason for meeting, certainly we’ll do our ABCs that month - and then we’ll look at whether or not we can get a witness booked at that time. If not, we’ll carry on with our witnesses through into January, but we’ll at least do our ABCs during December.

Is the 6th agreeable to everyone? If it is, Darlene, we’ll go with the 6th then on that for December.

I think, unless I’ve missed something, that is all the business so we stand adjourned. Please remember to sign the report for Darlene before you leave.

[The committee adjourned at 10:04 a.m.]
