Gerald Doucet, portrait - first Acadian cabinet minister with portfolio
A recent Dalhousie law graduate, Gérald (Gerry) Doucet was elected for Richmond County in the 1963 election. When named to the Executive Council as Provincial Secretary in 1964 he became the first Acadian to be a cabinet minister. Later he also served as Minister of Education. In 1971 he ran for the leadership of the Progressive Conservatives, but lost to John Buchanan. He did not re-offer in the 1974 election.
