July 31, 1758
As returning officer the Deputy Provost Marshall, D. Christopher Jessen, had two assistants who swore to assist in preventing “Confusion & fraud”. Of the 1500 settlers of Lunenburg by the election of 1758, at most half the adult males qualified for naturalization out of around 250 heads of households. Of these, 58 voted on 31 July for two township representatives (hence the total of 116 votes). Presumably the same number voted for sixteen members elected for the province at large. The Lunenburg Township Poll Book for the 1758 election is the only extant poll book for the 1758 election. See page two for the assistants’ oath and page twelve for the list of candidates who ran in the election.
